Affirmations are such an amazing gift that you can give yourself by implementing them into your daily routines.
For me, I like to say them throughout the day as I remember to do so, but I find it particularly helpful when I start my day by going through my entire list at least once in front of the mirror.
I believe that there’s power in not only saying them out loud but also having your eyes witness your lips moving and using your voice to say these words rather than just reading them silently.
By SEEING your lips move, and witnessing YOU speak what your ears are hearing can decrease the time it takes for your brain to catch on to the importance of these words.
What is an affirmation?
Th definition of an affirmation according to an online dictionary:
Affirmation: [ af-er-mey-shuhn ]
Noun
- the action or process of affirming something or being affirmed.
- Emotional support or encouragement
In this particular article though, I’d like to focus on self affirmation, so how does this differ from the above definition?
Self-Affirmation: [self-af·fir·ma·tion]
Noun
- the act of affirming one’s own worthiness and value as an individual for beneficial effect (such as increasing one’s confidence or raising self-esteem)
Whatever You Repeat Consistently Can (And Most Likely Will) Become A Habit
I believe the repetition of any positive or negative action will create a habit, so if you want to improve your life, it’s very important to implement some type of repetition into your daily routines to ‘show’ your brain that what you’re doing or saying is part of your life now.
This can be hard to believe sometimes, especially if you’re like me and you’re used to thinking that some or all of your thoughts are just “facts”.
It was a hard realization finding myself in this boat when I “woke up” after two years in survival mode and didn’t know who I was anymore.

Fake-It-Till-You-Make-It
When I start something new, I sometimes have to go by the “fake it till you make it” concept. This was true when I started implementing self-affirmations into my new daily tasks because I was in a really low mental state that I still have to work on daily not to return to.
When I started saying affirmations to myself, let me tell you: I did not believe them to be true. AT ALL!
But by implementing them into my daily routines, and definitely by starting my entire day by going through the entire list, I’ve found that it’s really improved my mindset in SO many ways. It even helps with improving my mood!
I’m starting to see a difference in the way my days go overall, and I feel there’s power in the words themselves and in hearing myself say them out loud. Best of all? I think my brain has started to believe what I’m saying! *Gasp*
There’s SO many self-affirmations out there, so be sure to find ones that resonate with YOU. But I compiled a small list of ones that resonate with me and the person I desire to become.

How did you feel when reading some of these?
In Conclusion:
Practice and consistency can help you persevere.
Make a goal to start your day with some self-affirmations if you’re struggling with your sense of self-worth or self-esteem.
I also find it very helpful to write some of these on my bathroom mirror so I see them every-time I look in the mirror.
If you find it hard to say them out loud at first, definitely try writing them down and putting them in a few different places you’re bound to see each day then slowly work your way up to saying them out loud, like you believe it, in front of the mirror each day.
I’d love to hear your thoughts on self-affirmations, and how they may have helped you discover a better sense of self-value.
